photoluminescent Klebeband oder Farber fur Pfeile?
« am: Januar 07, 2014, 21:21:57 » |

I am tired of losing my arrows and thought about painting them at the nock. Or even easier wrapping a tape between the feather and the nock. It seems that strontium aluminate paint is the newest and longest lasting (12 hours) of the poshperous paints. Has anyone tried this? I have found some tape here, but apparently its very rough... http://www.amazon.de/product-reviews/B005ZQDSSK/ref=cm_cr_dp_hist_three?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addThreeStar&showViewpoints=0Thanks Alex

...if you are roving / stump shooting: use zwickey judo points or charly points (tophat) or any point like these, they prevent arrows from burrying / getting lost in leafs, grass, ... they also stop "ricochet" arrows quite quick ps: i'm speaking from my own experience i was tired of loosing arrows so often. i addition to the special points i use fluorescent colours for cresting (e.g. http://www.conrad.at/ce/de/product/243949/Tamiya-86027-Color-Lexanspray-Neon-Gelb-Farb-Code-PS-27100-ml-Spraydose?ref=searchDetail - not phospherouscent!)

There is another really efficient possibility ... More Training ...Less Lost arrows ... But actually i was thinking of light reflective wraps Or tape at the nockend ... Together with a good flashlight you will be able to See them Even from a distance like 20 m

Ofcourse Elha's suggestion is probably best... but try as I might Anyway, it seems that people don't really find phosphor paint very useful... I liked the idea, because it does not require any additional equipment like a torch and also does not add any significant weight to the arrow and thus change its performance... Juddo's I will buy, but will mostly shoot with 125 gr field points...I am hoping that I can swap between Juddos, field point and eventually braodheads all at 125 grains and not change the arrows performance too much...But I think that is another thread... I will try the best paint(strontium aluminate) they have available right now and see how it goes....Thanks for all the comments Cheers Alex How to make you own illuminating nocks see here: http://youtu.be/hMqLT-4ezzk

I liked the idea with luminouscent paint too, but you can't find arrows, if they are completeley covered by leafs/gras/mud... even with the lightest glowing paint in my oppinion the most efficient way is the combination of bright painting, special tips and accurat shooting, like elha said keep in mind that tips like judo or charly points bring much more stress to the shaft, footings are recommended. if they have the same wight like field points, they should not influence the arrow flight.

what about RFID? A mini RFID Chip into the shaft and a small RFID Scanner should work, if you know where the arrow could be. If you don't know where the arrow is, you'll need a better scanner...

could/should work, I thought about that for our turtles... now one has gone without a chip the small ones do not big range, so the scanner has to get near to them, and I didn't want to spend hundrets of € for a Motorola scanner.

I am shure that we will see RFID "finders" in archery in near future - like these http://bikn.com/video.php they have the range we need - but they are to large and heavy to be attached to an arrow now. Things will be smaller and light enough for arrows (and cheaper than today) within some time... Andreas

At work, we have an electronics department.... I could ask about your idea...
Regarding the phosphorescent paint..I bought Rayher Nachtleucht Medium today and have painted both bare wood and varnished wood 3 times.
The results are very disappointing... However, I do not know if this paint contains Strontium Aluminate or the older much duller chemical previously in common use... I guess I must buy some paint which explicitly say strontium Aluminate..
One thing should be noted, when the paint is dry it feels like sandpaper... So They must be varnished afterwards... I gues the varnish will effect how well they are charged up to, but I must test this later...
Cheers Alex

Photoluminescent Klebeband oder Farber fur Pfeile?

Hi Alex, Since I build my own arrows I was thinking about to use some of these wraps http://www.bogensportwelt.de/Arrowwraps-8-Zoll-Leuchtend-Serie-800-fuer-6-oder-12-PfeileYou can either get them as glowing or reflecting wrap. I'm certain that both way are sufficient, but I'm afraid that the arrows look shity with them Currently I'm using fishing golwsticks when I shoot at night. I simply tape them onto the arrow infront of the flechting. I guess it has an bad influence to the arrow, but with a that bad aim as my, this does not change a thing Best regards Christian
