Mittelteil in welche Holz?
« am: November 27, 2013, 22:50:25 »

Mittelteil  in die Hartholz?
Ich dachte mit Lignum Vitae. Gibt es einen Grund, es nicht zu benutzen? Gibt es bessere Wald zu benutzen? Es ist für einen Bogen herunternehmen, dass Ulf wird für mich zu machen.

Cocbola is gut?

Danke.
Alex
riser from which hardwood?
I was thinking of having Lignum Vitae.  Is there any reason not to use it?  Are there better woods to use?  It is for a take down bow, that Ulf will make for me.

Thank you.

Thank you for the website.  He writes that he can supply alternatives woods to the ones on his website.  So I was looking for the heaviest woods I could find as alternatives to propose to him.

The fact is, I have little experience of bows and so do not know which wood combinations are best.  I understand that the heavier the riser the better, but  is that all that I should consider?

I have emailed Ulf, but due to my lack of knowledge, I cannot logically evaluate his proposals.  I ask the experts here for advice, so I can converse logically with Ulf.

For instances, should the riser be made out of a single piece of wood or several glued together.  I see both types on his website... Why? There must be benefits to both, but with no experience I do not know which is best for me...

From my internet research I see that the Lignum Vitae is waxy/ oily like Cocobola, so gluing may be a problem.  You see cocobola risers, but no Lignum Vitae...This seem odd

Thanks
Alex

No one like Pockholz (Lignum Vitae), it´s hard to work with.  Grin

For heavy Drawwights should the Riser be glued. For smaller Bows a single piece are ok.

Don´t think so, but for the answer is Ulf the best man.

Some of us knows ULF personally, so we know you can trust him.
Tell him wich wood you would have found, and he will made the best combination for you.

Sorry for the worst writing, my first english since 15 years  Grin

I would also recommend Grenadil of it shall be Super Heavy ...

If Heavy would be enough i would go for cocobolo Or Makassar Or a combination of both.

As i switched from my Standard BP Kiowa made of zebrano and Micarta to my Custom Kiowa made of cocobolo and Makassar i gained the weight about 220 grams ... And that is quite something :-)

Kind regards

Thank you both for you answers... The general standard of English is pretty good here in Germany and it puts us Brits to shame...

It is not that I do not trust Ulf or his opinion, it is simply that I would be relying on the opinion of one person.  I am sure that each bowyer has his prefered wood to work with and these are as wide and varied as the bowyers themselves.. Smiley

However, after all the reearch I have done I still am not sure...  I think I will just go with what Ulf says...

The important thing is that I am not really looking for  beautiful bow... I just want one that performs the best for me and my particular needs as a beginner who wants to evetually hunt with it...

I have decided on a few mm over centre-cut and probably a high grip to give me better technique..

Thank you for your help... I will let you know the outcome...However, that will be some time away...

Cheers

Well, I am very happy... I asked Ulf to suggest the best woods for my specific case... I said I was not interested in good looks only performance...  Well as it happpens you can have both... I am really pleased.. .Here is the suggestion...

18" riser in block lamination with Ziricote/Macassar Ebony/Ziricote, accentuated with Maple/Wenge/Maple, grip overlays Maple and Macassar Ebony

I thought it was only polite to keep you updated, after the help and suggestions kindly given to me here

Cheers
Alex
Now the wait.... Smiley
